Toronto, ON, Canada / Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica had a successful start to World Curling’s Pan
Continental Championship in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada.
Men’s Results
The Jamaican men’s team of Ian Robertson, Andrew Walker, Don Johnston and Luke Samuels currently
sit atop the men’s B-Division standings with four (4) wins and no losses after going undefeated during
the opening weekend. Here is a summary of the men’s results:
Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024:
Jamaica 9 Kazakhstan 8 – the Jamaican men’s debut game in official World Curling competition. There
were multiple lead changes and the game was tied 8-8 after 9 ends. Jamaica scored the winning point in
the 10th and final end.
Jamaica 9 Hong Kong 5 – it was a close game against an experienced opponent in Hong Kong, with
Jamaica hanging on to a 6-5 lead before stealing 3 points in the final end to win the game.
Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024:
Jamaica 11 Kenya 0 – Jamaica scored 2 points in each of the first two ends and never looked back.
Kenya conceded the game after 7 ends of play.
Jamaica 5 Brazil 4 – this game was tied 4-4 after 10 ends and needed an extra 11th end to decide the
game. Jamaica had the “hammer” (last rock) in the 11th end and capitalized by scoring the winning point.
Today’s Scheduled Games: vs. India (10am Jamaican time), vs. Saudi Arabia (8pm)
Women’s Results
The Jamaican women’s team of Madeleine Spurgeon, Stephanie Chen, Margot Shepherd-Spurgeon and
Alexandra Marriott are also undefeated in B-Division play after the opening weekend, with a 2-0 record.
Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024:
Jamaica 8 Hong Kong 5 – Hong Kong jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Jamaica tied the game by scoring 3 points in the 5th end. Jamaica then trailed 5-4 until scoring 4 points in the 9th end to secure the victory.
Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024:
Jamaica 6 Brazil 5 – Jamaica built a 5-2 lead after 6 ends, but Brazil answered with 1 point in each of the
8th, 9th and 10th ends to tie the game and force extra time. The Jamaican women secured the win by
scoring a single point in the 11th end.
